Kornel Piłat, a graduate of the Gdansk University of Technology, has designed a discharge device for a sniper rifle that will reduce the perceived recoil of the weapon. Research into the device formed the basis of the graduate’s master’s thesis.

“The discharge brake is a gas-dynamic device mounted at the end of the barrel. It reduces the perceived recoil of the firearm – this is very important to the shooter as recoil negatively affects the control of the weapon. This translates into shooting accuracy and comfort, and can even cause injury to the shooter”, says the creator of the invention.

The idea for the ‘Design of an ejection device for a sniper rifle’ stemmed from passion as Kornel Piłat is a sports shooter. The aim of the work was to develop an innovative discharge brake and optimise it through theoretical and experimental analysis of selected discharge device solutions.
