Gdansk University of Technology joins a consortium researching modern road surfaces

24.07.2019

Gdańsk University of Technology became part of a scientific consortium, which together with an industrial consortium made up of Budimex S.A., Grupa Lotos S.A. and Orlen Asfalt Sp. z o.o. will develop technology to reduce road construction costs and improve their durability through the use of highly polymer modified asphalt.

Researchers will investigate the impact of the use of modified and highly modified bitumens, i.e. HiMA (Highly Modified Asphalt) asphalt for the construction of various layers of pavement, which will allow to update the Catalog of Typical Structures of Prone and Semi-rigid Surfaces.
The results of research and analysis will be known next year. The works will be carried out as part of the research program “Optimization of the asphalt structure of the road surface thanks to the use of modified bitumens”. The scientific consortium consists of Warsaw University of Technology and the Research Institute of Roads and Bridges in Warsaw, in addition to the Gdańsk University of Technology.
