Engineers from the Gdańsk University of Technology will design an autonomous ship collecting waste from water and from other ships. The vessel will be powered by electricity. The project will be implemented by a Polish-Taiwanese consortium.

The project leader is Seatech Engineering. The ZeroWastePorts consortium included two more partners from Taiwan: National Taiwan University and Ship and Ocean Industries R&D Center.

The aim of the work is to prepare a preliminary design of an autonomous waste collection vessel powered by electricity. The unit will be adapted for operation in open waters and limited from the navigational point of view like limited waters (ports, harbors, inland waterways).

The project will create a hull shape design with good stability, low fuel consumption and excellent maneuverability. In addition, algorithms for waste detection and autonomous navigation mode will be developed.
