Gdańsk University of Technology students have created an application for seniors who, in epidemic conditions, have difficulty with shopping. The application can quickly connect old people in need with volunteers who can provide such purchases.

– The idea was simply dictated to us by life. We ourselves did shopping for our grandparents during this period and found that we want to help people who do not have family to whom they could turn for help – says team leader Aleksander Obuchowski.

The operation of the application is very simple. Seniors can send a shopping list to a given number via sms. Volunteers using the website can see the lists appearing along with the location on the map. As a result, they can shop for people in the area where they are currently.

The prototype of the solution took second place in the “Isolation” category in the national “Hack the Crisis” hackathon. Now, the authors are planning to make the application available for more people.
