The Offshore Center will be established at the Gdynia Maritime University (UMG). It will enable comprehensive, specialized research and development work for the innovative maritime industry. Currently, apart from UMG, none of the research and development units in the country does such work.
The unit will be the seat of certified laboratories of the Maritime Institute of universities. Their operation will be a part of the preparation and implementation of investments in offshore wind energy with the necessary research and education facilities for the domestic offshore wind energy sector. The task of the Center is to create a local, Polish supply chain for the offshore industry.
The already commenced investment is implemented under the Regional Operational Program of the Pomeranian Voivodeship for 2014-2020, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund. Co-financing of the project from the European Union amounts to almost PLN 18 million.
