Grant to study the journey of cosmic rays through the galaxy

25.10.2019

The Polish-German project “Measurements of cross-sections in fragmentation processes necessary to interpret the effects of cosmic rays traveling through the Galaxy” by scientists from the University of Silesia and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology was qualified for funding under the Beethoven Classic 3 competition.

The goal of the project managed by Dr Seweryn Kowalski and Dr Michael Unger is the measurement of cross sections in the processes of fragmentation of light and medium atomic nuclei.

The results obtained will be useful in understanding and interpreting the data obtained in experiments on the study of cosmic rays, and in particular its journey through the galaxy.

The competition is organized by the National Science Center in cooperation with the German Research Community. In the current part, 130 were submitted by Polish-German research teams of which 34 projects received funding.
