The Jury of Prof. Tadeusz Kotarbiński Award announced that this year’s best humanities book in Poland is “Cruel self-immolation theater. Suicide protests on fire and their echoes in contemporary culture” written by Prof. Grzegorz Ziółkowski from the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań.
The Prof. Tadeusz Kotarbiński Award for outstanding scientific work in the field of the humanities was established to support and promote the work of Polish scientists and also to remind about the unflagging nature of the tasks of the humanities themselves.
The award was established on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the University of Lodz. Following the outstanding founder of the university, philosopher and ethics specialist Prof. Kotarbiński, it seemed natural for us to create a prize for a humanities work. One of the assumptions was to reward books, not the entire scientific work, to give a chance to young scientists, – said Prof. Antoni Różalski, chairman of the Jury and Rector of the University of Lodz.
