“Innovative (eco) material for use in agriculture and horticulture” – the invention of Dr Agnieszka Richert and Dr Grażyna B. Dąbrowska from the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń won the gold medal at the 14th International Fair of Inventions and Innovations INTARG in Katowice.
Their invention is a method of producing (eco) polylactide foil with tar for biostatic or biocidal properties. The foil is used in agriculture and horticulture for protecting plant crops against pathogens ensuring lower consumption of plant protection products.
In addition, (eco) foil, after using it, is biodegraded faster (by about 20%) compared to biodegradable foils that do not contain tar. The co-author of the invention of researchers from the Department of Genetics of the Faculty of Biological and Veterinary Sciences in Toruń is Dr Henryk P. Dąbrowski from the Archaeological Museum in Biskupin.
