Innovative method of producing a titanium nitride layer on metal substrates developed at the National Center for Nuclear Research

13.12.2018

Dr Eng. Marek Barlak from the National Center for Nuclear Research (NCBJ) in cooperation with scientists from the Institute of Electronic Materials Technology patented an innovative method of producing the titanium nitride layer on metallic substrates.

The aim of the project was to “develop a method for the production of titanium nitride layer with uniform phase composition, high durability and abrasion resistance with maintaining the lowest possible coefficient of friction and good adhesion to the substrate”. An example of practical application of the patent is the production of bearings.

The patented method is based on combining two techniques into one technological cycle: techniques of intensive plasma impulses and isothermal methods of heating in a nitrogen atmosphere.
