The Grossi Cracovienses awards gala took place at the headquarters of the National Bank of Poland (NBP) in Kraków. The Institute of Archaeology of the Jagiellonian University (UJ) in Krakow, which was honoured in the category of education, was recognised for preserving, popularising and disseminating cultural heritage among the public.

The justification for the award emphasised that the NBP Krakow Economic Salon co-operates with the Jagiellonian University on an ongoing basis in organising open lectures conducted by academics from the Institute of Archaeology at the Jagiellonian University, giving lectures on the history of money and economy from the earliest times (prehistory) to the period of the first Piasts, based on the latest archaeological research.

“This is a special honour for us, because in the Year of Nicolaus Copernicus, which is being celebrated, we have tried to recall his merits as a scientist who, among many other contributions, also contributed to the development of monetary policy. We are proud of this, as a university that for several years educated that excellent man”, said Prof. Jacek Popiel, rector of the Jagiellonian University, receiving the award.
