Institute of Geophysics of the Polish Academy of Sciences to manage a consortium dealing with observation system of the European plate

14.11.2018

The Institute of Geophysics of the Polish Academy of Sciences has been selected to manage the European consortium and integrate research infrastructures in the EPOS-ERIC (European Plate Observing System) in the field of geophysical threats accompanying the exploitation of Earth’s natural resources.

EPOS is an infrastructural scientific project that allows to understand earthquakes, volcanoes eruptions, tsunamis and other threats – including those associated with the exploitation of deposits with potentially serious impact on the environment.

The European Commission accepted the transformation of the program into a European consortium EPOS-ERIC, which on November 8, 2018 in Rome, officially began its operations.

EPOS ERIC is the 20th European Research Consortium and the fifth in the field of environmental sciences.
