Institute of Pedagogy of the University of Rzeszów to hold the scientific seminar “Femininity in disability”

02.01.2020

On January 25, 2020, the Institute of Pedagogy of the University of Rzeszów and the Pedagogical Department of the University of Warsaw are organizing a scientific seminar on disability studies “Femininity in disability” in Rzeszów.

The social and cultural consequences of changes taking place in the world have been widely recognized by the scientific community for years. Currently, it seems particularly important to reformulate the established concept of disability, treating it as a personal tragedy. The new disability paradigm emphasizes the social dimension and the rights of people with disabilities to freedom and diversity. Still, the issues of femininity, masculinity, attractiveness, relationships and love of people with disabilities require attention of scientists.

The event’s program includes an exhibition of photographs by Tamara Pieńko from the “Gratitude” program, which is part of the project under the same title carried out with Dr Alicja Długołęka. The idea of the “Gratitude” project is to show a woman and her corporeality and emotions. The scientific part will include a discussion panel with representatives of the science and culture community.
