The invention developed at the Medical University of Silesia: “Compartment container to prepare biofilm for analysis with scanning electron microscopy (SEM)” was patented at the European Patent Office.
Researchers have developed an in vitro biofilm collection system that includes a compartmental reservoir for microbial cultivation if an optimal growth environment for biofilm-forming microbes is required for use in electron microscopy.
The invention can be used as an effective and economical method of multiplication of microorganisms in the form of a biofilm, improving microbiological research. The practical effect includes optimization of the research process, the results of which can be used in clinical practice.
The authors of the project include Dr Arkadiusz Dziedzic, Dr Robert Wojtyczka, Dr Robert Kubina, MD, Prof. Marta Tanasiewicz, as well as Dr Wojciech Kujawski.
