Dr Marek Kluszczyński from the Jan Długosz University in Częstochowa, was the winner of the Przychodnia Przyszłości (Clinic of the Future) competition of the Supreme Medical Chamber in Warsaw. The laureate developed and implemented a diagnostic system for the assessment of posture and orthopaedic measurements Orthometr – an innovative device with a computer application.
The device enables fast and modern diagnostics of body posture, and is particularly dedicated to the detection of spinal scoliosis in children and adolescents. It works on the principle of an electronic protractor with specially selected shapes that allow the measurement of posture parameters and the range of movement of all major limb joints.
The application contains a scientifically developed algorithm for the detection of a postural defect. Through automatic analysis of the algorithm’s parameters, it prompts the examiner with a diagnosis and suggests further treatment of the child. The data recorded in the programme can be printed out, archived and sent to another institution for consultation.
