Lublin University of Technology (PL) and the State Higher Vocational School (PWSZ) in Chełm have joined forces in the fight against coronavirus. Scientists from both universities are producing protective equipment that will be used during the ongoing epidemic.
By using conventional injection technology, universities jointly produce the helmets. This method ensures very good quality of parts, high efficiency and low cost of production.
Researchers from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the PL prepared the design of the band. In the digital version, it was transferred to the PWSZ, where the scientists created injection mold. The finished form was sent to the Department of Polymer Technology and Processing., where it was installed on a laboratory injection molding machine. Then the bands were transported to the State University of Applied Sciences in Chełm, where films, rubber bands and protective sponges are installed – explains Prof. Zbigniew Pater, Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, PL.
So far, scientists have produced a thousand helmets. They can produce about 200 pieces daily. The cost of producing a helmet is about PLN 3.
