Jury selected finalists of the 20th POLITYKA Science Awards

21.09.2020

The jury of the 20th POLITYKA Science Awards selected 15 finalists. Five of them will receive the main scholarships of 15,000 PLN. The winners will be announced on October 21.

The largest group of this year’s finalists are scientists from the University of Warsaw and the Jagiellonian University in Krakow. Each of the universities has 3 representatives in this group.

For 20 years, 332 young scientists were awarded, who received awards in the total amount of over 6.637 million PLN.

-When we started, it was a mainly beneficial undertaking, it was time when university graduates, with the potential for research and teaching, worked for pennies, made extra money with tutoring, and resolved trivial dilemmas of what to buy: a book or shoes for a child for the winter. Polish science was then threatened with a real generational collapse. We asked: who will teach our children? Those few scientists- as we called them – desperados who would have enough determination to make their way through the rigid and frustrated academic world? – wrote Ewa Wilk, president of the POLITYKA Foundation, which grants scholarships to young scientists.

The awards will be given in five categories: humanities, social sciences, science, technology and life sciences.
