A scientific and industrial consortium with the Koszalin University of Technology will develop an innovative design of a domestic hot water tank. The project, worth of PLN 3.2 million – was supported by the National Center for Research and Development.
“Layered hot water PCM storage tank” will be a solution that allows to save heat. The leader of the project is the Gdańsk company Profi Systems Technology sp. Z o.o, the consortium includes also the Koszalin University of Technology and the Institute of Fluid-Flow Machinery of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Gdańsk.
A certain part of the heat accumulator will be filled with balls a few centimeters in diameter. In each of the balls there will be a so-called phase change material (PCM). When heat is applied, the material, after reaching the correct temperature, undergoes a phase change, i.e. it melts. When the ambient temperature of the material drops below a certain level, then the PCM begins to reverse (crystallize), giving up the collected heat.
