Wrocław University of Science and Technology working on green energy for factories

08.01.2021

An international consortium with the participation of scientists of the Wrocław University of Science and Technology is working on technologies that will allow to meet a large part of the demand of factories with energy from solar collectors. Researchers of 8 European countries are implementing the ASTEP (Application of Solar Thermal Energy to Processes) project.

Some researchers will focus on an innovative solar collector, which will be a reliable source of energy, also in premises, where the use of solar energy has not been very profitable so far, due to low insolation and frequent changes in the weather. The second part, including scientists of the Wrocław University of Science and Technology, is involved in the construction of the TES (Thermal Energy Storage) heat accumulator, based on phase change materials.

The Romanian factory of the steel producer ArcellorMittal and the Greek dairy Mandrekas will be the first companies to test new solutions. The ASTEP project is financed by the EU Research and Innovation Program “Horizon 2020”.
