A letter of intent to carry out joint research in the area of innovative solutions for winter sports was signed by Adam Małysz, President of the Polish Ski Association (PZN), Jan Winkiel, Secretary General of PZN, and Vice-Rector of the Krakow University of Technology (PK) Dr Eng. arch. Tomasz Kapecki, Professor at PK.
Cooperation between the university and PZN will serve to support the training of senior and youth Polish national teams, initially the ski jumping team. The basis for joint activities will be the infrastructure of the newly opened PK Environmental Aerodynamics Laboratory with its unique wind engineering research tools.
Adam Małysz, President of PZN, emphasised that without scientific support it is impossible to achieve world-class success in today’s competitive sport.
The scope of joint research work between PK and PZN will be extensive. In the case of ski jumping, the research will cover the subsequent phases of a ski jump – from take-off, through the rebound from the threshold of the hill, the flight with the load, the landing.
