Krakow University of Technology created a ventilator prototype

30.04.2020

The new prototype of ventilator, equipped with a humidifying and heating system, was created at the Krakow University of Technology (PK). The equipment, created by scientists from PK in cooperation with specialists from the University Children’s Hospital in Krakow, has already passed the first tests, during which it “breathed” on its own.

The designers used the standard components, which are approved for medical use and parts of the own design of engineers from PK, including items printed on 3D printers. This combination guarantees the speed and low cost of production of the entire equipment, and it can also significantly shorten the path to certification.

The use of a ventilator in medical practice requires further work including clinical testing and certification in the final stage. In this process, scientists and medics will be supported by Center of Technology Transfer of the Krakow University of Technology.
