Michał Pawlus and Jakub Kot, industrial design engineering students at the Kraków University of Technology (PK), were the winners of the “For Sustainable Networks” competition for the design of the casing for GBC Photonics’ Smart Recode Device optical module programmer. The competition was organised by Salumanus, a leader in the telecommunications industry.
Salumanus provides solutions for building new and expanding existing telecommunications networks. It has specialised in data transmission using optical networks for more than 20 years.
The aim of the ‘For sustainable networks’ competition was to select the most interesting design for the casing of the SRD GBC Photonics optical module programmer, i.e. a device enabling multiple reprogramming of optical modules (which reduces the amount of electro-waste).
The winning design by PK students is characterised by a minimalist design, a functional enclosure designed to facilitate the transport and storage of more devices and a special indentation for the power cable.
