Law on the establishment of the Zamość Academy passed in the Sejm

14.07.2021

The Sejm adopted an act on the establishment of the Zamość Academy. It will be established on the basis of the Szymon Szymonowic Zamość State Higher School. Now the bill is sent to the Senate. If it confirms the law, the Academy could start operating on September 1, 2021.

The Zamość Academy was opened on March 15, 1595. In total, it educated several thousand people. In the beginning, it had three faculties of philosophy, law and medicine. The lectures were usually in Greek and Latin.

In 1784, the occupants changed the Zamość Academy into a secondary school, which was later transformed into the Provincial School. In 1811 it was closed.

Supervision over the reactivated Zamojska Academy will be carried out by the minister “competent for higher education and science”. He would also appoint the first rector of the Academy. Pursuant to the provisions of the Law, the Zamość Academy will educate young people in the spirit of the “Christian national tradition”.
