The project “Smart beehives” of students of the Lodz University of Technology won the third place in the international competition Cisco Global Problem Solver 2020. More than 520 teams from universities from around the world creating innovative startups with a positive impact on the environment applied for the competition.
TUL students received an award of 10,000. US dollars that will be spent on further development of the system and research on the condition of bee colonies.
The solution of TUL students consists of devices of hive monitoring, specially designed and adapted for bees with a mobile and internet application for apiary management. The 24/7 hive monitoring visualizes the parameters of the hive including temperature, humidity, weight, sound frequency, location and much more. The beekeeper therefore does not have to do frequent personal hive inspections.
The application facilitates the detection of diseases, swarms, inspection of the hive, planning tasks, as well as keeping disease records of bee colonies.
