Dr Agata Starosta from the Department of Molecular Biology at the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University (UMCS) was the only scholar from Lublin honored with the Prime Minister’s Awards for the postdoctoral dissertations.

The researcher was recognized for research of fundamental importance for understanding the process of protein synthesis or translation. This is a central process for the functioning of every living cell.

Dr Agata Starosta is the head of the Gene Expression Laboratory at ECOTECH-COMPLEX, where she and her team look for factors potentially determining “regulation of protein biosynthesis at the translation level”. It implements grants under the First Time program of the Foundation for Polish Science and EMBO Installation Grant – European Molecular Biology Organization.
