Researchers from Lublin’s Maria Curie Sklodowska University (UMCS) have developed the WAXO analyser, a portable, electromechanical device that allows beeswax to be analysed for adulteration.
The analyser allows for a quick, yet relatively inexpensive way of determining the quality of the wax tested and assessing its suitability for apiary management. By measuring the mechanical and thermal properties of the material under test, an assessment is made of its similarity to pure wax from de-stemming. This makes it possible to eliminate from the market products that differ from the natural material.
The evaluation of the tested material is based on the unique WAXO algorithm. It was developed on the basis of the results of analyses of several thousand wax samples of varying quality and from different parts of the world.
The WAXO technology is protected by Polish and international patents. The device is manufactured at the UMCS in Lublin, and its commercialisation is handled by the University’s special purpose vehicle, UMCS Synergia sp. z o.o.
