Registration for those wishing to participate in the National Rhetorical Olympiad is open until 13 November 2023. The event is organised by the Faculty of Philosophy of the Catholic University of Lublin.
The aim of the Olympiad, as stated in its regulations, is “to introduce young people to the realm of high intellectual culture”. This is linked to the fact that: “refinement, eloquence, excellent expression have always been synonymous with a kind of aristocratism of spirit”. In this way, the Rhetorical Olympiad is intended to be an incentive for students to develop a culture of the living word and a certain turn towards classical education.
As the organisers write, “Rhetoric, however, is more than just the art of an impressive command of words. It is first and foremost decent, precise reasoning that leads its user to spiritual sovereignty. For it is a weapon in the fight against manipulation, persuasion and the top-down imposition of views and beliefs.”
