The Chair of Historic Preservation from the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture at Lublin University of Technology (PL), as part of the Erasmus + programme in the higher education sector, has won funding for an international project ‘Green and sustainable public spaces in historic cities – an innovative curriculum’.
The theme of the project is public spaces, which play a key role in the life of urban communities.
These are places where the temperature rises by several or even a dozen degrees. If it is 30 degrees outside, it can be over 40 degrees in a concrete courtyard or square. In practice, this means that it is increasingly difficult, or even impossible, to use these spaces. “Our task is to find solutions that will allow these spaces to be modernised, while respecting their historical value and conservation protection”, said Professor Bogusław Szmygin, Dean of the Faculty of Construction and Architecture, Head of the Department of Historic Preservation.
In addition to PL as the leader, the project involves the Polytechnic University of Milan and the University of Granada, as well as three cities on the UNESCO World Heritage List: Zamość, Ravenna and Granada.
