Lublin University of Technology opened the largest wind tunnel in eastern Poland

10.11.2021

The largest wind tunnel in eastern Poland has been launched in the building of the Center for Innovation and Advanced Technologies of the Lublin University of Technology (PL). It covers an area of 160 square meters and weighs 40 tons. It is the most advanced research equipment related to aviation, automotive, wind energy, construction and sports.

-The tunnel is an example of an investment in our research equipment. It cost PLN 4.6 million, of which almost 80% was paid from the university’s own funds. In order to maintain a high scientific position, we must have the most modern research equipment – said Prof. Zbigniew Pater, Rector of PL.

Prof. Mirosław Wendeker, head of the Department of Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics and Aviation Propulsion PL, emphasized that the wind tunnel is a great place to test the key characteristics from the point of view of sports success in such disciplines as: ski jumping, skiing, bobsleigh, motor sports and cycling, where aerodynamic forces act in a particular way on sportsmen.
