University Adam Mickiewicz in Poznań possesses the largest collection of Masonic items in Europe. There are over 80,000 books in the university archives including real publishing gems e.g. the Anderson Constitution of 1723 – considered the canon book of the Freemasonry law.
Collections in 1949 were delivered to Poznań from Sława Śląska. Earlier, they were collected by Himmler. The Germans had no problem with finding Masons because of the obligation to list members of particular lodges. A special team of SS librarians studied the collections, catalogued them and studied. Later, in the end of the war, the collections were transported away.
Books and documents are stored in the Special Collections Department of the University Library. Currently, the University is raising funds for the digitization of the collections and their publication.
