Medical University of Silesia to launch studies for medical coders in Bytom

The Medical University of Silesia (SUM) is the first public medical university in Poland to launch postgraduate studies for medical coders. They will be conducted in cooperation with the Polish Society of Medical Coders.

A medical coder is a person necessary for every hospital, his duties include accounting for health services financed from public funds, the use of hospital procedures in accordance with the recommendations, guidelines and recommendations of national consultants and medical societies, but also creating a treatment report using codes, coding the causes of benefits and all activities performed during their provision, as well as coding diseases and medical procedures.

The Polish Society of Medical Coders was established in 2011 in Poznań. Its purpose is to bring together the medical community of hospitals and other health care units. The main task of the organization is to place the profession of “medical coder” in the Polish legal system.
