Przemysław Czarnek, Minister of Education and Science held a meeting at the Academy of Physical Education (AWF) in Biała Podlaska, with representatives of the scientific community. The event was devoted to the inauguration of a project on the fight against obesity in primary school children.

The head of the Ministry of Science, referring to the research presented during the meeting, stated that “only in the years 2014-2018, children’s average weigh amounted by 2 percent. This is the worst result in Europe. ” We are the society where young people gain weight at the fastest pace. For this reason, certain actions must be taken here and now – emphasized Minister Czarnek.

He also noted that the pandemic and distance learning undoubtedly exacerbated the problem. The minister explained that girls studying in grades I-III have the biggest problem with obesity.

-We want to enhance the program of school sports clubs in order to encourage children to move more with such activities that will most effectively fight the problem of obesity – said Czarnek.
