Hermes – a hybrid attachment for the wheelchair drive of a disabled person constructed by students of the Białystok University of Technology, was awarded with a special diploma of Minister of Science and Higher Education Jarosław Gowin.

Hermes was created for disabled people using wheelchairs. It is a lightweight wheelchair, equipped with electric and manual drive. Thanks to it, the disabled person’s wheelchair can be driven either manually, through a crank mechanism included in the steering wheel or thanks to a programmable electric motor with an energy recovery system during braking. The electric drive makes it possible to continue driving in the event of fatigue and it helps to overcome uneven terrain and curbs.

The project was carried out in the student scientific club Orthos at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the Białystok University of Technology.
