The Ministry of Education and Science is working on a draft law on the National Copernican Program. It is part of the New Deal program, announced by the Polish government. 

-The year 2023 will be the 550th anniversary of Nicolaus Copernicus’ birth, and in 2043 – the 500th anniversary of his death. These 20 years sets out the timing perspective for a great national project of joining Polish science to the leading research centers. The main idea is to create a network of effective scientific institutions – says the preamble to the bill.

The project provides for the establishment of the International Copernican Academy, which will supervise the implementation of the Copernican Program. It will deal with awarding prizes, scholarships, supporting young scientists, and cooperating with research institutions in Poland and abroad. The new academy is to make our scientific institutions equal to the best ones in the world in 20 years.
