Project of a Museum for Materials received an international award

08.04.2021

Darya Biaketava, a student of the Faculty of Architecture at the Wrocław University of Science and Technology, won an award in the international competition for the concept of the Museum of Materials. The competition “Design a Museum for Materials” was organized by UNI – an online platform bringing together over 150,000 world architects and designers.

The participants’ task was to present building materials through the architecture itself. In her work “The Haptic Museum of Building Materials in Barcelona” the student designed two permanent buildings and seven exhibition pavilions. Importantly, all facilities meet the assumptions of sustainable architecture.

The pavilions would be placed in a courtyard bounded by permanent buildings. Their shapes would refer to the traditional rural houses characteristic of this region of Spain. Each of them would be made of a different building material, so that visitors could take a close look at individual raw materials.
