A notarial deed of donation of Fabryczny Square for the needs of the Silesian Medical University was signed at the Bielsko-Biała City Hall. The document was signed by the mayor of the city, Jarosław Klimaszewski, and the rector of the university, Professor Tomasz Szczepański, MD. The new premises will house the medical faculty, library and medical simulation centre, the university announced.

The idea behind the project is to adapt buildings of high historical value while eliminating inaccessible, degraded outbuildings and post-industrial buildings of low architectural value. The cost of the investment is more than PLN 300 million and its implementation is scheduled for 60 months.

The SUM’s branch in Bielsko-Biała currently operates on temporary premises. The bases for clinical classes are: Provincial Hospital in Bielsko-Biała, Paediatric Hospital in Bielsko-Biała, Beskidzkie Oncology Centre – John Paul II City Hospital in Bielsko-Biała and Silesian Centre for Rheumatology, Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation in Ustroń.
