At the “Ulopolis” of the Wrocław University of Science and Technology, modern technologies help the equipment that will help to care about bee families.
Scientists from the Wrocław University of Science and Technology are working on measuring instruments and devices that will help in caring for bee colonies. On the roof of one of the buildings on the university campus, “Ulopolis” was created, i.e. a polytechnic apiary used to test in field conditions various technical solutions that can be used in beekeeping.
A specially designed platform with a mounting system guarantees the hives protection and stability during strong winds, and the plants growing nearby provide benefits for insects.
Ulopolis was equipped with a measurement and observation infrastructure. The installed temperature, humidity and gas sensors allow scholars to monitor the conditions inside the hives. The nearby weather station provides data on the current weather situation. Placing the hives on specially constructed scales allows for the continuous measurement of their weight, and the camera system allows you to observe the outlets and the interior of the hives.
