Ignacy Łukasiewicz, inventor of the paraffin lamp and pioneer of the oil industry in Europe, became the protagonist of a mural decorating the wall of one of the buildings of the Rzeszów University of Technology. In this way, the Rzeszów university honoured its patron as part of the celebrations of the Year of Ignacy Łukasiewicz.

The mural commemorating Ignacy Łukasiewicz is located on the north-east wall of Building J of the Rzeszów University of Technology at 1 Podkarpacka Street.

The surface area of the mural is approximately 170 sq m and the height of the wall is approximately 12 m. There are 7 LED lamps mounted on the wall. One of them is mounted on the light radius of the Ignacy Łukasiewicz lamp.

The lighting is switched on by a mounted astronomical clock. Meshes have been installed on the windows to let light into the building, creating a uniform mural surface on the outside. The mural is fully coated with polyurethane varnish, a so-called anti-graffiti paint.
