National Center for Nuclear Research participated in the project of construction of a multi-element container inspection system

The National Center for Nuclear Research (NCBJ) and the National Tax Administration participated in the international C-BORD project, which aims to develop and test a comprehensive, cost-effective solution for inspecting containers and large loads at the borders of the European Union – in particular in seaports.

Five control methods were developed in the project: an X-ray scanner, radiometric gates, a neutron system, a photo-grafting system and a vapor analyzer of a container.

The idea is that C-BORD, operating in a wide range of non-intrusive inspections, could detect drugs, tobacco, explosives, chemical warfare agents, human smuggling and nuclear materials.

The project has shown that it is technically possible to develop and integrate a multi-element inspection system. The tests were carried out at a roadside checkpoint in Hungary and in container ports in Gdansk and Rotterdam.
