Polskie Koleje Państwowe Intercity (PKP Intercity) signed a letter of intent with the National Center for Research and Development. Both institutions will cooperate in the implementation of innovative projects for sake of passengers of Polish railways. A letter of intent signed under the joint implementation of the “Luxtorpeda 2.0” program assumes implementations of the innovative rail initiatives.
Dr. Sebastian Skuza, deputy minister of science and higher education emphasized that ” just undertaking the effort of innovative partnership in this field, is an innovation itself”.
In turn, Prof. Marek Chorowski, director of the National Center for Research and Development, said that together with the Polish State Railways, they will analyze current state of technology. Also the specific technological challenges and the market for innovation are being defined. According to the director of the National Center for Research and Development, ” creating a market and setting specific technological and economic requirements will guarantee that a valuable final product will be created”.
In February 2016, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki announced that the railway industry will be one of the Polish “smart specializations”. – The government wants to withdraw from the concept of developing a country based on supporting the metropolis for sustainable development. Development cannot be only in big cities. We need to create more perspectives for medium towns and small towns- highlighted- Prime Minister Morawiecki.
