National Science Center to allocate over PLN 210 million for basic research

The National Science Center has awarded grants for basic research to experienced scientists, scholars planning to set up a research team, and researchers planning an internship in foreign research teams for implementing grants from the European Research Council (ERC).

A total number of 476 applications for over PLN 1 billion have been submitted in the completed competitions, of which 90 projects have been qualified for funding. The total value of financing in all three competitions is over PLN 210.5 million. In the Overture competition, the success rate was 50%, in BIS SONATA – 18%, while in MAESTRO – almost 19%.

In the MAESTRO 11 competition, applications could be submitted by experienced scientists planning pioneering research going beyond the current state of knowledge. SONATA BIS is addressed to people who have at least a doctoral title obtained in the period from 5 to 12 years before the year of submitting the application. The purpose of the competition is to establish a new research team. UWERTURA 4 is a competition for scientists who already have some experience in conducting research and want to receive an internship in foreign research teams implementing ERC grants. Its purpose is to support effective application for European funds.
