NCN settled MAESTRO 14 and SONATA BIS 12 competitions

The National Centre of Science (NCN) has settled the next MAESTRO and SONATA BIS. In both competitions, 472 applications were submitted. 63 projects received funding totalling over PLN 188 million.

The MAESTRO competition is intended for experienced scientists, while the SONATA BIS competition is aimed at researchers who would like to set up a new team. 

In the 14th MAESTRO, five laureates received grants. Among them is Prof. Katarzyna Maria Jednoróg from the Institute of Experimental Biology of the Polish Academy of Sciences, who will realise a project entitled Language Deficits in Neurodevelopmental Disorders in Children. 

In the 12th SONATA BIS competition, 58 laureates were selected: 9 in the humanities, social sciences and arts, 33 in science and technology and 16 in life sciences.

The laureates include Dr Milena Anna Damulewicz from the Faculty of Biology at the Jagiellonian University and her team will use a model of Drosophila melanogaster (a fruit fly) to analyse the molecular mechanism through which light affects the progression of Parkinson’s disease.
