A presentation of the work “New Commentary on Vatican Code B (3773)” – one of the five Codes in the Borgia collection, was held at the Pontifical Antonianum University in Rome, in the Vatican Apostolic Library. The work was prepared in collaboration between the University of Warsaw (UW) and the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).
The international group of researchers was led by Dr Katarzyna Mikulska, Institute of Iberian and Ibero-American Studies at the UW.
‘The research on Vatican Code B, known in the academic world as Code Vat. Lat. 3773 is innovative and groundbreaking also in that regard that they began a whole new era of research on Mesoamerican books’, says Dr Katarzyna Mikulska.
The Vatican Codex B was most likely created decades before the arrival of the Spaniards in Mexico, in or near the intercultural region on the border of the modern states of Puebla and Oaxaca.
Twenty-two scientists participated in the project, not only representatives of the humanities and researchers of the contents of the manuscripts, but also chemists who carried out studies of the used dyes and decorations.
