Nicolaus Copernicus Birthday celebrations at the Ignacy Mine in Rybnik

The Ignacy Mine in Rybnik will host celebrations to mark the 550th anniversary of the birth of Nicolaus Copernicus. The programme includes astronomy workshops, scientific shows and lectures, and a space cake. The event is co-organised by the Centre for Lifelong Learning at the Silesian University of Technology.

The event will take place on 19 February at the historic Ignacy Mine. The day before, on Saturday 18 February, it will be possible to take part in astronomy workshops, see a demonstration of drones and virtual reality technology. An exhibition of rocket modellers will be available in the former compressor house building. The exhibition of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw, “Nicolaus Copernicus – life and work”, will be presented in the Kościuszko shaft.

The organisers of the event are: Polish Society of Astronomy Enthusiasts Silesian Branch, the Continuing Education Centre – a branch of the Silesian University of Technology in Rybnik, and the Teenager Technical Academy.
