Kozminski University in Warsaw has informed that José Ramos-Horta, Nobel Peace Prize laureate and the former president of East Timor has headed the Scientific Council of the TIGER Research Center for Transformation, Integration and Globalization, operating at KU.
Jose Ramos-Horta studied law in the USA, was the minister of foreign affairs in the first government, and later the prime minister and the president of East Timor.
In 1996, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for over 20 years of fighting for the independence of East Timor, a former Portuguese colony, occupied by Indonesia since 1975. Since 2002, East Timor has been an independent democratic republic.
He donated the Nobel Prize to a microloans fund for the poor. Currently, he is involved in the activities of international organizations working for peace, human rights, democracy and sustainable development.
