Dr Dominika Jakubowska, Department of Market and Consumption, Faculty of Economic Sciences, University of Warmia and Mazury (UWM) in Olsztyn, is the first scientist in Poland to conduct research defining the original features of traditional food products.
The lack of legislation clearly defining who and under what conditions may use the term “traditional food product” devalues the concept of tradition. That is why we need to develop a catalog of authentic features of traditional food that allow it to be distinguished from imitations – explains Dr Jakubowska.
In her opinion, the term “traditional food” is not protected and is sometimes interpreted differently. Producers of traditional products, in addition to the right to protect the name, may also place symbols on the packaging that testify to the uniqueness of the product. However, these signs are perceived and interpreted differently by consumers, and their excess introduces information noise.
