15.07.2020

The University of Warmia and Mazury (UWM) in Olsztyn received additional funding of PLN 18 million in treasury bonds from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. The university will allocate money to purchase an ultramodern linear microaccelerator for radiosurgery.

The device will allow to provide precise surgical procedures. It is particularly useful for non-invasive removal of tumors in the brain, facial skull, neck as well as for the treatment of drug-resistant epilepsy and Parkinson’s disease.

UWM emphasizes that this is the first step to create a center of head and neck radiosurgery at the University Clinical Hospital.

-This equipment will support not only the development of our university but also our medicine studies and treatment. It will help to ensure the health of the region’s inhabitants. None of the Olsztyn hospitals is developing as dynamically as our university hospital – said the UWM rector, Prof. Ryszard Górecki.
