The Jagiellonian Centre for Digital Humanities was officially inaugurated at Collegium Novum of the Jagiellonian University (UJ) in Kraków. It is a non-departmental unit whose aim is to carry out activities in the field of digital humanities, and in particular to initiate, organise and carry out activities related to the preservation of cultural heritage through digitisation.

The UJ’s Vice-Chancellor for Teaching, Professor Armen Edigarian, emphasised at the inauguration that the conduct of humanities research, as in other fields, is today inevitably linked to the use of digital tools.

The Dean of the Faculty of Polish Studies at the Jagiellonian University, Prof. Jarosław Fazan, drew attention not only to the role of artificial intelligence tools in conducting research, but also to virtual reality as a subject of interest in the humanities. The Dean of the Faculty of Philology at the Jagiellonian University, Prof. Władysław Witalisz, noted that the establishment of the new unit was an important step towards interdisciplinarity.
