The Opole company Eksplomet becomes a member of the PILUM consortium, which will implement a technologically groundbreaking project of an innovative electromagnetic rail cannon. The research is funded by the European Commission and managed by the European Defense Agency.
The rail cannon is able to accelerate missiles at initial speeds far above existing chemical cannons. It uses electromagnetic force by injecting very high currents into conductive rails.
The project will last two years and aims to prove that this type of design is able to accurately launch bullets with hyperspeed over a distance of several hundred kilometers. The PILUM consortium brings includes nine partners from Belgium, France, Germany, Poland and Italy. The Polish participant is a small company Eksplomet specializing in explosive metal plating.
