The Opole University of Technology is planning to expand the activities of its laboratory for ankle instability. It is the only unit in Europe which, in addition to scientific research, will also deal with prevention, the university reports.
The only laboratory in Europe operates at the Faculty of Physical Education and Physiotherapy, the other is in the United States.
‘We would like this laboratory to extend its activities to the prevention of athletes, residents of Opole. The effects of repeated sprains significantly limit the undertaking of physical and professional activity, and in athletes they contribute to the premature end of their competitive careers, and also affect the quality of everyday activities. Hence, apart from the medical aspects, the problem also has a social and economic dimension, as it is associated with significant health care costs and absences from e.g. school, training and work’, explains Professor Marcin Lorenc, Rector of the Opole University of Technology.
