Opole University of Technology to support students with ASD

18.10.2021

The Opole University of Technology is among 40 universities that have joined the project “Assistant student with ASD”. As a result, the university will create a network of assistants, a model of supporting ASD students and a manual of good practices.

The project is addressed to BA. MA and PhD students of the full-time and part-time studies with the autism spectrum understood as a definition of a specific subtype of overall developmental disorders without differentiation into autism and Asperger’s syndrome. Students who do not have a diagnosis but feel they need help can also apply for such support.

– People with autism or Asperger’s Syndrome are very gifted in one area but may have a problem with the other for example working within a group. The assistant conducting the classes should assign such a person a different task, and coordinate it – says Katarzyna Pazdan from the Psychological Support Center of the Opole University of Technology.
